The WSMI Secretariat is pleased to report that ICH – the International Council for Harmonisation (previously International Conference on Harmonisation), at its June 2016 meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, formally welcomed WSMI as a member. Please see the ICH Press Release: Press Release ICH Lisbon June 2016.
ICH now has 2 industry members (WSMI and IGBA – The International Generics and Biosimilars Association) and 19 observers representing regulatory authorities, regional health initiatives and pharmaceutical industry. For the full list of ICH members, see http://www.ich.org/about/membership.html. The ICH membership was recently expanded as part of an ICH reform intended to “reinforce the foundations of ICH to make it better-equipped to face the challenges of global pharmaceutical development and regulation”, meaning more involvement of regulators from around the world and wider inclusion of global industry sectors affected by ICH harmonization. ICH aims to operate transparently.
WSMI is pleased to be admitted as a member of ICH. WSMI has contributed as an interested party to various ICH working groups and initiatives since the onset of the programme and is committed to continue its active participation. Full membership provides an opportunity to fully engage in global regulatory discussions in the future and to ensure specificities of non-prescription medicines are taken into account in ICH guidelines. WSMI is looking forward to work with all ICH members and observers in advancing OTC regulation around the globe and enabling Self Care.
