US Association Publishes White Paper in Pharmacists’ Journal

A White Paper prepared by the Consumer Healthcare Products’ Association’s (CHPA) Clinical/Medical Committee has been published in the October 2010 issue of Pharmacy Today, the journal of the American Pharmacists Association. The report examines the role of OTC medicines in the U.S. healthcare system, particularly the benefits these products provide from a medical, convenience and economic perspective, with a particular focus on convenience, a key benefit of OTC medicines. The paper ends with a discussion on the conditions for safe and effective use of OTC medicines by consumers. A list of therapeutic agents available in OTC products recommended by U.S. national medical associations and frequencies of selected conditions treated with OTC medicines is attached to the report.
