Stakeholders roundtable on the responsible use of medicines, FIP Congress (Düsseldorf, Germany, 29 September-3 October 2015)

WSMI was invited to participate in a roundtable session on the responsible use of self-medication on the occasion of the 75th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2015. The objective of the roundtable was to explore the possible contribution of pharmacists in ensuring the responsible use of self-medication from the perspectives of different stakeholders. For WSMI, it is clear that pharmacists have a central role in self-care and responsible self-medication. The pharmacies as point of access give pharmacists a leading opportunity for providing advice. The pharmacists, in partnership with the patients, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals contribute to health education. In conditions such as migraine, allergies, asthma, diabetes, it is critical that patients learn to recognize symptoms and reach out for the appropriate treatment in time. The roundtable provided an opportunity for WSMI to share the industry’s viewpoints with pharmacists and other stakeholders.
