MESMI : A future Self-Medication Industry Association in the Middle East

A second meeting of a group of companies interested in establishing a trade association to represent their collective interests in the Middle East was held on 22 January in Dubai.

The meeting was chaired by WSMI Director-General David Webber and was well represented by national and multinational companies. The group confirmed their wish to establish the Middle East Self-Medication Industry Association (MESMI), to be based in Dubai and focusing initially on the 7 Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The necessary legal steps and articles, governance and board constitution, budget and fees structures were all discussed in some detail. The next steps for the formal establishment of MESMI will be put in place over the next three months.
