Canada follows up on the joint discussion paper with the World Medical Association
April 2007

WSMI and The World Medical Association have co-authored a publication in the World Medical Journal entitled “A Discussion paper on the Future of Self-Care and its Implications For Physicians”.  The emergence of self-care and responsible self-medication is of importance to physicians around the world, and the paper was designed to stimulate discussion and interaction between doctors and their representatives, and the self-medication industry. The paper looked at current trends regarding self-care, identified the potential impacts and implications for physicians, and made some recommendations for tools by which physicians may be better equipped to support and deal with patient self-care. NDMAC - Advancing Canadian Self Care, WSMI’s member association in Canada, is following up with the Canadian Medical Association to discuss the paper and the implications for Canada's medical practices of the move towards empowering Canadians to take a stronger role in managing their own health.
