The United Nations grants consultative status to WSMI
August 2004

The World Self-Medication Industry is pleased to report that the United Nations central coordination body (the Economic and Social Council) at its session on July 2004 has decided to grant consultative status to WSMI. Technically, consultative status enables WSMI "to make a contribution to the work programmes and goals of the United Nations by serving as technical experts, advisers and consultants to governments and Secretariat". WSMI has been in official relations with the World Health Organisation since 1977 and this new recognition will enable us to further bring to public attention the role and opportunities of responsible self-medication.
