China launches successfully Self-Care Day

The Chinese Self-Medication Industry Association, CNMA, reported on a successful Self-Care Day Launch Event held at the National Convention Center in Beijing on 24 July 2011 (see WSMI’s previous news item entitled International Self-Care Day, 24 July 2011). About 200 people were invited and participated, including leaders of CNMA and Partner Institutions, healthcare experts, pharmacy representatives, the Media and representatives of the public. CNMA’s Partner Institutions for Self-Care Day are: the China Health and Medical Development Foundation, the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association and Beijing Health Promotion Association. The launching ceremony was lively, with theatrical performances and interactive activities involving the public, healthcare experts and the media. Two thousand pharmacies were invited to join the campaign and were provided with material to support them in making the public more aware of the importance of self-care in healthcare. A “mini-blog” was launched with 24 experienced healthcare experts invited as permanent consultants. Questions and issues raised by the public will be answered and continuing scientific and reliable information about Self-Care and responsible Self-Medication will be available on-line. Finally, Brand OTC Corporations have been invited by CNMA to propose follow-up activities. The seven preferred suggestions will be set up with the objective to help the public care about their health.
