Conference “Citizen Empowerment Through Self-Care“, Auckland, New-Zealand, 22 October 2015

The New-Zealand Self-Medication Industry (NZSMI) held their annual conference on October 22nd, 2015. The conference, entitled “Citizen Empowerment Through Self-Care”, was well attended by over 120 delegates representing health authorities, industry and other stakeholders. The excellent panel of speakers updated the audience on the current trends in self-care and responsible self-medication at the global and local levels. A lively panel discussion took place around the new Therapeutic Product legislation currently being developed in New-Zealand. The meeting culminated in the formal launch of the SelfCare Alliance NZ. A founding group of 12 organisations committed to provide support to the principles of Self Care. The Alliance aims to function as a catalyst to bring together stakeholders around the common purpose of supporting self-care. Overall, the conference continued to evolve the roadmap that develops and embeds the notion of Self-Care and its importance for the New Zealand Health System.
