On the eve of the 8th WSMI Asia Pacific Regional Conference “The Changing Landscape of Self-Medication ” at the Taipei International Convention Centre in Chinese Taipei, a new member association – the Asia Pacific Self-Medication Industry (APSMI) – was founded. On the same day (5 November 2010), the new association was accepted as the latest member of the World Self-Medication Industry (WSMI).
According to its Articles of Association, APSMI’ s mission is “Supporting APSMI members in developing a healthy OTC market; Empowering consumers’ responsible self-medication as an integral part of the healthcare system; Encouraging healthcare professionals to be involved in self-medication; and Promoting appropriate regulations to be enforced in cooperation with authorities.”
The new association’ s initial programme of activity envisages addressing issues such as the sound development of the OTC industry in the region through mutual recognition and data sharing on the curent situation and encouraging the information exchange through various meetings and conferences in the region. “As a regional body APSMI supports the WSMI activities under the WSMI Articles of Association with member associations,” said the new APSMI President.
