The Board of Directors of WSMI has elected Mr Brian McNamara, CEO Consumer Healthcare, Glaxo SmithKline, as the new WSMI Chair with immediate effect.
Mr. McNamara succeeds Mr. Suneet Varma of Pfizer who stepped down from his role as WSMI Chair following his appointment as Global President of a division within Pfizer’s ethical pharmaceutical business.The Board of Directors of WSMI would like to warmly thank Mr Varma for his leadership during his tenure as Chair since June 2016.
Mr McNamara joined GSK in March 2015, as Head of Europe and the Americas for GSK Consumer Healthcare, following the creation of a Joint Venture between GSK and Novartis. Mr McNamara is CEO, GSK Consumer Healthcare since September 2016. He is a WSMI Board Member. He has also been a Board Member and Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee of AESGP and Board Member and Vice Chairman of CHPA. He is a senior leader of the consumer healthcare industry, with a passion for giving patients and individuals greater opportunities to take care of themselves.
As the new Chair, Mr McNamara will continue to help guide WSMI in promoting the value and benefits of self-care and self-medication. Supporting health awareness and encouraging self-care is benefitting healthcare systems and the individual. WSMI is dedicated to a world where self-care increasingly contributes to better health and more sustainable healthcare systems.
