Boca Raton (FL), 19th March 2019 – Alan Main, Executive Vice President of Sanofi and Global Head, Consumer Healthcare Division, was unanimously elected as Chair of the World Self Medication Industry (WSMI) at its Board Meeting held in Boca Raton Florida today. WSMI is a federation of associations, manufacturers and distributors of non-prescription medicines from around the world. Mr. Main succeeds Brian McNamara, CEO GSK Consumer Healthcare, who hands over the Chair at the end of his two-year term. Alan Main ushers in a new era for WSMI as the value and benefits of Self Care become increasingly important to consumers and to the sustainability of health systems. “I am delighted and honoured to assume the Chairmanship of WSMI at a critical time for our industry,” said Alan Main. “There has never been a greater need for the innovation we bring to help consumers live healthier and fuller lives. We live in a digital era of great promise, where we can truly transform how consumers take control of their health. I would like to thank Brian for setting WSMI’s bold agenda to fulfill this promise — I look forward to continuing this important work as WSMI assumes its global role in shaping the future of Self Care.”
“I am delighted to hand over the leadership of WSMI to Alan Main,” says Brian McNamara, out-going Chair. “Alan brings the needed vision and commitment to represent our industry and establish WSMI as the trusted global voice for Self-Care.” “This is a pivotal time for WSMI, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Alan Main during this period. We have a unique opportunity to be the global champion of Self Care, and having a leader of Alan’s stature and experience at the helm will propel our efforts and sustain the momentum we created under Brian McNamara,” added Judy Stenmark, Director General, WSMI.
