Responsible self-medication will be recognised as a key force in primary health care and in health policy in WHO and other international organisations.
WSMI will be recognised by all relevant international health and health professional organisations as the expert worldwide voice of Self-Medication.

Our Mission
To create and maintain an international environment, intended to improve the opportunities for people to manage their own health through the responsible use of safe and effective self-medication products.

This is achieved by:
Communicating the value of responsible self-medication to health professionals, health authorities, consumers and others;
Fostering responsible nonprescription medicine advertising, promotion and package information;
Encouraging high standards of quality, safety and efficacy of self-medication products.
Enhancing the scope and depth of interactions with the World Health Organization and other healthcare organizations.


Strategies:
Cooperate with and contribute to other healthcare organizations' programmes and goals, especially those related to self-medication and quality use of medicines
Provide and facilitate the exchange of information among members on all issues related to self-medication.
Organize international and regional conferences and represent the worldwide
self-medication industry at other conferences.
Require the creation and implementation of voluntary codes and guidelines of advertising practice and consumer-friendly package information.
Assist the creation of national associations of nonprescription medicine manufacturers so as to further improve the practice of responsible self-medication.
Encourage research on aspects of responsible self-medication
